Ragen & Lucas | Mount Hope Plantation Baton Rouge Wedding

Last Saturday, a Louisiana girl and her Ohio man tied the knot under the oak trees of a beautiful South La plantation house, in front of their closest family and friends and it. was. perfect. I first met this sweet couple at a coffee shop a little over a month ago – we didn’t do an engagement session, which is unusual for me, simply because Lucas lives in Ohio. Chatting at CC’s was a great chance to get to know them, and I’m so grateful Ragen and Lucas took time for me out of their busy schedule on one of his trips to town! I was immediately impressed with how organized Ragen is – I’m telling you, the girl has a future in wedding planning!!

We talked about how they met when she was visiting mutual friends in Ohio – friends that tried to set them up even though she was dating someone else at the time! Y’all, sometimes your friends just know! When they finally did start dating, they would take turns flying out to see each other every month, which I thought was the sweetest thing. That takes a lot of dedication! After the wedding, they road-tripped back to up to Ohio to start their married life together. No more plane trips just to see each other!

There is something SO sweet about smaller weddings. They sort of feel like a laid-back, family reunion but at the same time focus so much on the couple and their love. Since the bride and groom aren’t spending the entire reception greeting everyone, just saying “hello” and “thank you for coming”, they get to really step back and enjoy everyone’s company. Ragen and Lucas, I truly hope you both enjoyed every happy tear, every prayer, every laugh, and every kiss.

And then there was the food. I didn’t mention this yet, but Ragen and Lucas got married at 11am. And then they served breakfast. A.k.a., the most amazing meal of the day. I’m talking eggs, cheesy grits, ham, and THE most delicious biscuits. While the girls were getting ready, Ragen’s mom said “apparently the biscuits are really good here,” so I made sure not to miss them. Y’all. They were beyond really good. (Seriously, I’ve been daydreaming about them ever since.) It was all the most amazing Southern treat for their Ohio guests! Later, after a little cake and dancing, Ragen and Lucas were sent off with purple & gold and scarlet & grey streamers, to chants of “Geaux Tigers!” and “O-H-I-O!” and a few more joyful tears. It was the perfect happy beginning to their marriage!
